Porcelain Veneers Questions

San Antonio, Texas

What are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are very thin ceramic covers custom shaped to fit over the front surfaces of your teeth. They immediately improve the shape and appearance of your front teeth. The porcelain is chosen to match the color of your tooth enamel and it has a translucency similar to that of natural teeth. Once your porcelain veneers are permanently placed, no one will be able to tell they are there; they will simply notice your beautiful new smile.

How long will my porcelain veneer procedure take?
Typically it takes two visits once you and Dr. Hale have determined that it is a good option for you. The first visit prepares the teeth to receive the veneers and the second visit is for attaching them. In the interim, the dental lab custom-crafts the veneers according to Dr. Hale’s instructions.

What problems can porcelain veneers correct?
Porcelain veneers are a good solution for a wide variety of dental problems:

  • Teeth that are worn
  • Crooked teeth
  • Stains that do not respond to tooth whitening
  • Small chips
  • Shallow cracks
  • Small gaps between teeth

If you are looking for an excellent way to improve your smile, porcelain veneers are an effective and fast way to do it.

Are there different types of porcelain veneers?
Yes. Since cosmetic dentists began using porcelain veneers there have been many improvements in the way they are created and how they are placed. Some porcelain veneers require removal of a small amount of tooth tissue to compensate for the thickness of the veneers. Others like Lumineers® are so thin that virtually no enamel needs to be removed.

Porcelain veneers are an excellent cosmetic dentistry choice for anyone who is unsatisfied with the appearance of their smile. Whether you are dealing with one tooth or several, porcelain veneers may be able to give you the smile you have been looking for.
